“I just passed the one-year mark for my complete knee replacement and felt it appropriate to provide some comments, given how well my knee is doing. Dr. Lionberger and his colleagues did a wonderful job in their role in my surgery /recovery and I cannot thank them enough for how well I am doing thus far. I was out of the hospital in one day, in rehab within three days and able to play golf just a few months later. Dr. Lionberer was kind but clear in his post-op instructions, explaining my own role in the recovery of my knee( mainly diet and exercise) and what my long-term goals should be. While there will always be limitations (after all , it is not the same knee the Good Lord put in), most days I have forgotten I even had the surgery and the ongoing pain in my knee is thankfully a distant memory.”

“Today Dr. Lionberger released me from going to physical therapy after having my total knee replacement only twenty-two days ago. For the last four years, I have walked with a limp and had to use a cane for support. I had been avoiding the inevitable, due to my dread of the pain of surgery and the pain that I had heard was excruciating going through therapy afterward. With Dr. Lionberger's exclusive technique, my fears were unwarranted. My pain was managed throughout the entire process because Dr. Lionberger believes the less pain the patient has, the faster the recovery. I am proof of that. Dr. Lionberger inserted a gender specific knee that was designed to fit my bone structure. I have been walking without my cane since the second day after surgery. I can press 80 pounds with my legs, ride a bike, go up and down stairs, and I've been doing squats since one week after surgery. My leg had become very crooked. Now it is straight, working, and free from pain. I can't put a price on that, I can only offer my sincerest gratitude to Dr. Lionberger and his incredible staff for giving me my new life. “It is hard to believe that over 6 years ago I was one of Dr. David Lionberger's first patients to receive the new minimally invasive, electromagnetic navigation system. I had the total knee replacement procedure to both my knees during a 10 day interval. I am here to say that after over 6 years time I am still going great and have been pain free from my knees ever sense. My procedure and recovery went so well that it was featured in The Methodist Hospital Systems Leading Medicine publication back in 2005. I believe in Dr. Lionberger and his system which minimizes the pain and recovery periods involved with these procedures. I continue to recommend Dr. Lionberger, and have had several friends and relatives have procedures done by him. Thank you Dr. Lionberger and your wonderful staff for staying on the cutting edge of technology and helping your patients back on the road to a rapid recovery.”

“Has Dr.Lionberger ever said to you..."Go out and enjoy yourself?" Pay attention!

I am 4-yrs.post-op, having had a total left knee replacement in 2006, and doing well, decided to take his advice and do something I always wanted to do. My son and I took a guided hiking tour of Acadia Nat'l Park in Maine last October, and much to my surprise and delight, was able to do 21.5 miles over 3 days. What a blast (as Dr. L. says)! We are hooked now, and are planning a 5-day hike in N.H. next October and a 8-day hike in Tuscany, Italy, this summer.

I will be celebrating my 81st birthday this week, so my advice to all you "post-ops" is to get out there and do whatever it is that you enjoy.

Ciao!”

“I went to Dr. Lionberger July. 2007 for my initial examination and with the doctors comment that my kness were "shot" made the decision to have both replaced. We scheduled the first July 30, the second August 20th. The doctor told if I followed his advise I would not have any problems. So very true! I walked around the hospital room the first day, the entire hospital floor the 2nd day. and up and down a flight of stairs the 3rd day, and was released from the hospital this 3rd day. I remember the most important instruction the doctor gave me was "elevation, elevation" and at any time I sat or laid down I did elevate my leg. Three weeks later I had the other knee totaly replaced, same result. This was three years ago July 30, 2007, and at the age of 81. I drove two weeks later, played golf a month after the surgery. I cannot say anything but positive comments about my experiences with Dr. Lionberger, and have thanked him and his staff for the excellent results I have had. I still get a "kick" showing off my scars, smaller than others I've seen.”

“My road to choosing a surgeon for hip replacement came through Cindy Kahle, a satisfied patient of Dr. David Lionberger and a friend of my wife Olga. They were discussing my hip problems and Cindy suggested that I meet with Dr. Lionberger for an evaluation. He had replaced her hip with great success. We feel very fortunate that she started us on this path. After my two successful hip replacements in 2010, we have found that professionalism, honesty, integrity, technical ability, and team spirit permeates his entire practice from the reception to the scheduling, x-ray staff , physician assistants and follow up. Patient comfort and care are always uppermost in their minds. My hip replacement surgeries at Methodist Hospital were attended by most efficient and attentive staffs. Recovery and after care were always handled in a pleasant manner. I have utmost respect for Dr. Lionberger and his staff and recommend him at every opportunity.”

“In 2009, I went on a mission trip to Bolivia. after the mission work was completed, we were offered a side trip to Cusco and Macchu Picchu. Macchu Picchu has been on my "Bucket List" for some time. By the time we got to Macchu Picchu, I knew that my knee was not going to allow me to do more than explore the lower, level areas. When a second mission trip was planned with another opportunity to go to Macchu Picchu, I decided it was time to do somthing about my knee. Dr. Lionberger had already told me to say "When". My sugery was May 12 and the trip to Macchu Picchu was July 30. I made it to the Guard House which is the highest point at the site, a little slower than some, but because I was out of breath-not because of my knee. Friends were amazed that I was able to take the trip three months after surgery. The decision to have surgery is a hard one to make, but the alternative is not being able to live a full life. My "Bucket List" is not complete.

I think the type of surgery Dr. Lionberger does and the therapy he reccommends makes a world of difference in recovery. His staff is cheerful and helpful which I think reflects the attitude of a doctor.”

“When I go fishing, I often think about how fortunate I am that I met Dr. Lionberger. Before my surgery, I could not walk to where I knew the fish were waiting. Now, few fish elude me and no snake has yet got the drop on me. As a result, I am now re-living my dream. I again am sincerely thankful for my new knees and restoring my life.”
